Jura E8 vs Jura F9 – A Modern Take on a Coffee Classic
There’s the age old saying – “don’t reinvent a classic”. We’ve seen this to be true in remakes of classic movies and screenplays, but when it comes to Jura coffee machines – we know that sometimes new really is improved.
For this reason, we’ll be comparing two similar (but different) Jura coffee machines – the E8 and the F9.
Jura E8 Overview
For a comprehensive review of the Jura E8 – head on over here.
A high end overview of this beauty encompasses the following:
The Jura E8 is designed to be a more economical successor to the F9, in terms of energy saving mode and it’s modern design. The E8 also features modern technology in that it allows for connection to the Jura App, which enables users to make coffee from their phone. If modern functionality ranks highly for you, this is likely a firm deciding factor.
While the aesthetic of the E8 speaks for itself, in a side-by-side comparison with the F9, one can see that the enhancements on it’s beauty are only but minor. I would say that they are both fair winners in terms of their looks.
The aesthetic feature that has a two-fold advantage is definitely the frother; the F9 comes standard with a built-in frother, but the E8 has a separate spout which allows for the Professional Fine Foam Frother; so – if a creamy, dreamy cappuccino is what gets you out of bed in the morning, take this strongly into consideration.
Jura E8 Price
Money talks. The Jura E8 will set you back in the region of approximately $ 1 900.00
Jura F9 Overview
Again, for an in-depth review of the Jura F9 – you can find it here.
What can you expect from your Jura F9?
The build of the F9 lends a certain air of quality and sturdiness, both in the looks of it as well as the general feeling. It may not have the app which is present in the E8, but it does still contain the rotary dial and TFT screen display. You can program this machine to save specific drink options (great for when you find the perfect balance of coffee, milk, water and temperature settings).
The water spout is located separate to the main spout and is also controlled by a separate dial – lending ease of use to those who drink tea and require only hot water from the machine.
To me, the lack of the Jura P.E.P is a major downfall; while you will still get premium coffee extraction from the F9, you will not get the exceptional quality offered by the E8 with it’s P.E.P technology. The grinder type is also of the “later” styling, using the Aroma+ grinder; on it’s own it is great, but pales in comparison to the Aroma G3 grinder found in the E8.
Jura F9 Price
Because this is a slightly older model, you can expect a $ 600.00 saving – so this will only set you back around $ 1 300.00.
The Verdict: Jura E8 vs Jura F9
We know the simplest way to directly comparing two items is to vet them side-by-side.

Which Machine Do I Choose? The E8 or the F9
Choose the right machine for YOU. Consider the following comparisons:
1) Pricing
This is usually the first thing people consider when making any type of monetary investment. There is a marginal price difference of +/- $ 600.00 in these machines – E8 is $ 1 900.00 and the F9 is $ 1 300.00. Decide which fits your budget better and move on from there.
2) Aesthetic
Is the look or the functionality of the machine more important for you? The E8 and F9 are very similar in aesthetic – but the E8 is more modern. The F9 is more sturdy in it’s appearance and contains a separate dial for the hot water spout. The E8 has a stand alone Professional Fine Foam Frother, and both machines have a TFT display with rotary selection.
3) Grinder
In terms of coffee extraction quality, this is a big factor. If you are a coffee purist who can detect the extraction quality differences between different grind sizes – look closely at this. The Aroma + grinder (present in the Jura F9) is good, but the Aroma G3 Grinder in the E8 is great. The G3 grinder allows the beans to be ground in half the time – meaning close to zero flavour is lost.
4) Bean Hopper
This may seem to be an insignificant factor, but in terms of refilling and the amount of attention required in maintaining the machine – this can make a difference. The F9 has a 260g bean hopper and the E8 has a 310g bean hopper. Both are proportional to the 1.9 litre water tank, though, so see if this impacts your day-to-day ease of use for you.
5) JURA App
There is no gray area in this factor; either you want the Jura App functionality, or it makes no difference to you. The Jura app allows you to brew coffee from your phone, as well as monitor daily usage and notify you when the bean hopper and water tank require refilling. It also detects and notifies you when a filter change is necessary. Consider this strongly when deciding.
6) P.E.P
Another Jura Key technology feature is the Pulse Extraction Process. This allows for maximum flavour extraction from each cup. This feature is only present ion the Jura E8 – so tying in with the Grinder choice – if maximum flavour is a factor for you. Look closely at this feature.
7) Frother
If making milky drinks is important, this is important. Both machines offer a Flat White drink option – which requires the finest of micro-foams. While the Jura F9 is fitted with a built-in Fine Foam Frother, the E8 comes with a Professional Fine Foam Frother – which takes your milk-based drinks to a whole new level.
We don’t choose sides, we only choose the best option for the end user. Weigh up your options and let us know which machine you’ve decided is going to be your own home Barista.
Happy sipping!
